Rock a bye baby

Although I have stated my desire to keep it cheap with the baby there is one thing I have to have and that is a rocking chair.  I’m willing to spend a bit on one that we like because you don’t save money by buying furniture you hate and want to get rid of.  We found a couple we like.

This is the dream rocker. Thos Moser, over $2k ouch.

I tried this out at Dwell on Design a couple of years ago and it is really comfortable and beautiful.  It’s the kind of furniture you pass down through the generations but I don’t know if that means I’ll shell out quite that much money.

An Eames reproduction from Design within Reach. Just under $500.

Jason found this one.  After drooling over the $2k rocker this price seems more reasonable.  Plus it is available in a few different colors.  Also the mid-modern design goes well with our other furniture.

A bargain option from Ikea. About $170.

I like that this has some padding.  I will be rocking a baby in this after all.  There are other color options available as well if Jason thinks this is too cutesy.

At the end of the day we probably won’t go as high as the Thos Moser but the Eames reproduction or the Ikea seem like good options for us.  Has anyone seen any other cool rockers out there?  I’m pretty adamant about having something with arms, I think that will be essential when holding a squirming baby.

Luckily Mom lent me a rocker from her house and we didn’t have to buy one. You might find one at an antique or 2ndhand store you like. I ended up never using the rocker to nurse and Lila didn’t care for being rocked. I mostly sat at my desk chair 🙂

  2. I’ve wanted a rocker for a while anyway and right now I’m being one of those optimistic future parents who is convinced I know better than the baby.

  3. I wanted a gliding rocker SO bad for the nursery, and I found one at a yard sale, which I recovered with a fun green and white pattern and my [very] limited sewing abilities.

I love that you’re keeping track of all your baby-related expenses in that sidebar on your blog – it’ll be interesting to see how everything adds up!

Good luck finding the perfect rocker!
